Filing A Claim
You need to file a claim. Now what? Report your claim to the insurance company or directly to your agent. Your insurance company will assign an adjuster to your case. The adjuster is responsible for investigating the claim, evaluating the damage and determining coverage. Your adjuster will be your primary point of contact throughout the claim process and guide you on any documents they need.
– Auto Insurance: In the case of a car accident, an auto insurance adjuster may inspect the damage to your vehicle, speak to involved parties, and review any police reports.
– Homeowners Insurance: For property damage claims, such as those resulting from a storm or fire, a claims adjuster will assess the extent of the damage and the cost of repairs.
In order to accurately evaluate the extent of the damage, your insurance adjuster may hire appraisers, engineers or contractors to lend their expert advice.
The adjuster will contact you regarding settlement of your claim and payment. The amount of time it takes to receive payment will depend on the complexity and severity of your situation.
